Night one – read results here: https://gorillapressonline.wordpress.com/2021/04/08/nxt-takeover-stand-and-deliver-night-one-results-and-recap-7-4-2021/- brought the goods and this is going to be a tough act to follow, even with this absolutely stacked card.

Pre Show Match

The #1 Contender for MSK’s recently won titles will be determined on the pre show with Breezango (Tyler Breeze & Fandango) Vs Killian Dain & Drake Maverick

Drake Maverick & Killian Dain Def. Breezango

Pretty good tag match to open the show, plenty of fun spots and the finish with Dain power-bombing Maverick onto their opponents is a fun spot.

Cruiserweight Championship unification ladder Match.

Santos Escobar Def. Jordan Devlin.

Santos has the upper hand in the early stages of the match and these two came out to steal the show from the get go, Devlin gets a close call and follows it up with a DDT falling from the ladder! Escobar follows up with a really smooth Suicide dive onto a ladder in an early highlight.

Jordan Devlin hits a picture perfect moonsault from the top of the ladder and as it looks like he has it in the bag, Legado Del Fantasma rush to the ring and keep the action flowing.

Santos Manages to grab the victory after the two men fight atop ladders, Escobar hits a Thumping headbutt knocking Devlin from the top and through another ladder, brutal bump.

Great start to the second night, each spot felt like it was telling a story and not just for the sake of doing something high risk which can usually be the pitfall for ladder matches.

NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match.

Shotzi Blackheart & Ember Moon Def. The Way (Indi Hartwell & Candice LeRae)

perfect follow to the Ladder match, keeping the energy levels high with a spirited bout, made sense to keep the titles on Moon/Blackheart as these two are really starting to gain momentum as a team instead of just two wrestlers packaged together to fill a quota.

Glad Shotzi is okay after that risky looking dive to the outside don’t know if she overshot it or was just the way the landing looked. scary stuff.

Johnny Gargano Def. Bronson Reed.

There are three things inevitable in life; Death, Taxes and Johnny Gargano delivering an excellent match at Takeover.

Bronson Reed is astonishingly agile for a big man and his wrestling style has a great fluidity to it, reminiscent of early Vader and Bam Bam Bigalow, this is an textbook example of a David Vs Goliath story without that being a dominant factor in the storytelling, Gargano targets the stomach of Reed in order to chop away at him a nice twist on the classic attack the legs of a giant tactic.

Johnny Takeover threw everything he had to get that win, not his best takeover outing but great wrestling and I’d love to see these two go at it again, Reed is a star in the making.

NXT Championship Match

Karrion Kross Def. Finn Balor

Finn Balor is finally returning to where he once was after his abysmal main roster decline and this has a big match feel to it. Kross had to relinquish the title like Balor previously, which has lead to this excellent run for Balor so the symmetry plays off nicely. Finn Balor wears a red cross painted over that shoulder injury tonight in a subtle nod to history.

Another excellent story told here, the build up to this match all comes into play in a physical back and forth match, Balor has a firm grasp of the early stages but the intimidating Kross is too much and beats a lifeless Balor relentlessly to reclaim his title in an wonderful bout which made them both look good.

Kyle O’Reilly Def. Adam Cole.

Speaking of brilliant build ups this on has been a barn burner one of the most hotly anticipated events in recent NXT history and its unsanctioned to boot. Adam Cole is playing his role magnificently as Kyle O’Reilly tries to reach the final step in his road to redemption.

A wall of security separate the two during the introductions, Kyle O’Reilly looks laser focussed ready to goto war.

Going into this I was worried it wouldn’t live up to the hype and fantastic job NXT have done marketing this match but oh boy was I wrong, this was everything it promised to deliver and more, this was just all out war.

Cole and O’reilly just kicked the living hell out of each other leaving a wake of destruction in their path, Broken Monitors, A slam through the metal stage, and loads of broken chairs strewn everywhere, this is a MOTY contender never mind the weekend.

It kept the story relevant throughout and the close calls and false finishes all meant something, this is everything that is great about wrestling. So many spots and OMG moments this is must see stuff.

Another Enthralling Takeover event and they have laid one hell of challenge out to the main roster to top these events.
